You can make a real difference to our local community and wider society in many ways as a councillor. For example, you could be representing the views of local people to ensure the community gets the right services, supporting a resident with an issue, or helping to shape the community by driving new ideas.
Being a councillor is a varied and highly fulfilling role. You don’t need any experience or special qualifications, and you’ll gain lots of new skills, experience, knowledge, and confidence and will feel you play a real part in our community.
To be a councillor you need to be:
-
be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights.
-
At least 18 years old.
-
Registered to vote in the area or have lived, worked, or owned property there for at least 12 months before an election.
We meet six times a year and training will be given. Please speak to any councillor about the role or get in touch with our Clerk, Sheryl Irving, on 01362 667756 or longhamparishcouncil@gmail.com .
This role is both interesting and rewarding and we would welcome your interest; we look forward to hearing from you.
